East Africa isn’t a single destination but a direction, a compass that will lead you to unimaginable natural treasures. Point yourself north, and you’re in gorilla forest, where the air tastes green, and every footstep matters. Head out across the plains, and you’re in Great Migration territory, where the land runs wide, and the horizon refuses to end. Swing toward the coast and the whole tempo changes completely. So the real question isn’t whether to come – it’s where to begin. And that’s exactly what we’re about to untangle.

About East Africa

East Africa isn’t one landscape. It’s a geographic sweep of ecosystems that somehow sit comfortably side by side. Savannah, crater, rainforest, highland, and the Indian Ocean island. That contrast is what makes it one of the best safari regions in Africa – and also what can make planning feel overwhelming.

The Serengeti and Maasai Mara anchor the classic Great Migration story. Ngorongoro condenses wildlife into a volcanic caldera. Rwanda’s mountains shelter gorillas in a protected forest. And further out, Zanzibar and the Seychelles offer a very different kind of wilderness consisting of wind, water, and granite.

One region, wildly different chapters. Once you understand that, choosing becomes a lot easier. So, whether you’re searching for East Africa holiday destinations, mapping out your first safari, or narrowing down the best places to visit in East Africa, this guide will help you curate your ideal trip.

Tanzania

Grand and seemingly untouched, Tanzania is an emblematic ecosystem. It’s home to a mosaic of the planet’s most mesmerising safari destinations and some of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife phenomena.

Mount Kilimanjaro stands as the crowned snow-capped landmark, while the Ngorongoro Crater drops away into a contained world of wildlife and light. And then there’s the Great Wildebeest Migration – that vast, moving pulse of hooves sweeping across plains and threading through rivers on its yearly circuit.

If Tanzania is calling, these are the places that answer loudest.

<img class="tve_image wp-image-33324 tcb-moved-image" alt="Wildebeest gallop past a safari vehicle on a game drive in Tanzania, one of the world's best safari destination's in East Africa.
There’s no limit to the wonders you’ll witness in Tanzania

Serengeti National Park

Best For: Migration-chasers, big-cat enthusiasts, and anyone wanting the full, classic East Africa safari experience on a grand scale.

Undulating honey-hued hills spill into the horizon. Starkly striped zebras swish their tails in time with the wind, while the horned heads of a wildebeest herd track you as you trail past. This is Serengeti National Park – untrammelled and unapologetically alive.

The magic lies in its shifting geography. The southern short-grass plains are where the Great Wildebeest Migration calves between January and March, drawing predators in close. The central Seronera region delivers year-round game viewing, with rivers and kopjes sheltering lion and leopard. Head north from July to October, and the Mara River crossings bring high-stakes drama.

The Serengeti is nearly 15,000 square kilometres of ecosystem, meaning space still exists – if you choose your timing and location well. However you shape it, the result is similar: dust on your boots, cameras working overtime, and plains that breathe long after the engine stops.

Highlights

The Great Wildebeest Migration, moving in a vast annual circuit

Big-cat territory with consistently strong predator sightings

A shape-shifting landscape: plains, kopjes, rivers, and woodland

Multiple Serengeti “moods” – from southern short-grass to the northern river country

The Serengeti holds wildlife wonder in abundance

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Best For: First-timers and photographers wanting dense wildlife, big cats, and strong Big 5 odds, especially black rhino.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area doesn’t feel like a “national park” so much as a living amphitheatre. The Crater floor holds a soda lake and green pockets that draw life inward: rhinos moving past pale pelicans, flamingos streaking the water in pink, lions patrolling with confidence. It can feel otherworldly, like someone turned the wildlife dial up and left it there.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Crater is the world’s largest intact, unfilled volcanic caldera. The rim rises to roughly 2,200–2,400 metres, while the floor sits around 1,800 metres, which is why vegetation shifts quickly from forested rim to open grassland below.

It’s also a multiple land-use area. Here, Maasai pastoralists and wildlife share space, with cultural visits arranged via rim lodges or nearby Karatu, which works well as a nearby base. If the Serengeti is Tanzania at full stride, Ngorongoro is the country condensed and utterly enriching.

Highlights

The world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, packed with wildlife

Dense predator population, particularly strong lion numbers

Dramatic elevation shifts from forested rim to open grassland floor

Cultural encounters within a unique multiple land-use conservation area

Wide-open landscapes blanket the Ngorongoro Crater

Tarangire National Park

Best For: Elephant lovers, dry-season drama enthusiasts, and exclusive “we’re the only ones here” feeling.

Tarangire National Park is elephant country in the truest sense, with baobabs punctuating the skyline and herds moving through in serious numbers. It comes into its own in the dry season, when the land pares back to the essentials, carpeted with tawny grass and powdered with red dust.

Everything that needs water starts orbiting the Tarangire River. It’s the park’s pulse, pulling elephant herds in close and drawing predators into the same frame. Beyond the classics, Tarangire also slips in surprises: lions that sometimes take to trees and sightings of rare dry-country specialists like the fringe-eared oryx.

It’s close to Arusha and pairs easily with Ngorongoro and the Serengeti – yet often feels calmer, earthier, and wonderfully unhurried.

Highlights

Dry-season magnet: the Tarangire River concentrates some of Tanzania’s largest elephant herds (June–October)

Iconic centuries-old baobab woodland shapes the park’s unmistakable skyline

Over 500 bird species, from yellow-collared lovebirds to kori bustards

Northern Tanzania’s stronghold for uncommon wildlife

Kenya

Kenya feels like a first sentence written in bold – dry and golden in places, cool and moss-soft in others. It’s often the easiest answer to “Where do I start?” in East Africa safari destinations: strong infrastructure, sharp guiding, unmatched vistas, and reliable wildlife sightings.

But Kenya isn’t only about the Big 5. It carries warmth in the welcome and depth in the culture that touches the heart and stirs the soul. The Maasai Mara runs on predator tension and Migration momentum, while Amboseli stages its elephant symphony to a boast-worthy backdrop of Kilimanjaro.

And beyond the headline parks, the conservancies soften the volume – fewer vehicles, more space, and nights where the stories live on well after the trip’s end.

Maasai Mara National Reserve

Best For: Migration timing, big-cat sightings, and travellers wanting classic safari drama with strong guiding and infrastructure.

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s most storied stretch of savannah – the one people name first, and for good reason. Part of the greater Mara–Serengeti ecosystem, wildlife here feels concentrated: lion, cheetah, and leopard sightings are consistently strong, and predator action is rarely far off.

The reserve’s name comes from the Maasai people, who have long lived alongside this land. “Mara” is linked to “spotted” – a plain peppered with acacia trees and illuminated by dappled sunlight, with dotted big cats creeping across the grassy expanse. From July to October, the Great Wildebeest Migration surges north, funnelling toward the Mara River in urgent, high-stakes crossings. Outside that window, resident game keeps things compelling year-round.

From national reserve lodges to private conservancies with fewer vehicles and more flexibility, the Mara offers both front-row spectacle and serene corners, depending on how you want to do it.

Highlights

Mara River bends that draw wildlife all day, not only in Migration season

Hot-air balloon safaris for a wide-angle view of the savannah

Conservancy nights: fireside dinners under serious starlit skies

Community connection through Maasai-run initiatives and cultural experiences

Amboseli National Park

Best For: Elephant lovers, first-time safari-goers, and anyone chasing Kilimanjaro-on-the-horizon photography.

Life moves unblemished beneath the watchful gaze of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the world’s largest free-standing peak. The wide-reaching plains of Amboseli National Park are juxtaposed with the snow-capped crown of the summit above. At its stem, wildlife teems.

This is elephant country, home to some of Kenya’s most studied and celebrated herds, including impressive big tuskers. Apart from the frequent sightings of these gentle giants, there are other marvellous creatures to observe. Giraffe move between acacia groves, cheetah scan the flats, and birdlife gathers at shimmering wetlands. The Maasai, long-time custodians of the land, remain part of the fabric here, adding cultural depth to the experience.

Compact and easy to navigate, Amboseli rewards even short stays with generous light, clear sightings, fewer crowds, and that iconic Kilimanjaro backdrop tying it all together.

Highlights

Kilimanjaro views that turn every game drive into an iconic adventure

Swamps and wetlands fed by underground springs, drawing wildlife in dry months

Some of Kenya’s most celebrated elephant families

Big sky scenery: dust devils, storm light, and clean horizons

Rwanda

Known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, Rwanda rises and rolls in every direction.

In the west, emerald ridgelines climb into mist, where bamboo forests cling to the slopes of dormant volcanoes and shelter mountain gorillas, rare golden monkeys, and forest birds that flicker through filtered light. In the east, the land relaxes into savannah and papyrus-fringed wetlands – a different ecosystem entirely, home to lion, rhino, elephant, and a growing cast of returning wildlife.

Rwanda has a calm clarity to it. It’s a country that’s moved through deep adversity and come out the other side with a strong sense of shared purpose. And while it’s often filed under “gorillas,” Rwanda is richer than a single headline. The country offers one of the most varied, thoughtful trips in East Africa – especially for travellers who want wildlife with context, and beauty with backbone.

<img class="tve_image wp-image-106064" alt="Ancient forests and dormant volcanic mountains are abound in Rwanda, one of the best East Africa destinations.
Volcanoes National Park

Best For: Gorilla trekkers, primate lovers, and travellers wanting an immersive, forest-led experience in East Africa.

Volcanoes National Park rises in folds of deep green – afromontane forest and bamboo thicket rooted in volcanic soil on the slopes of dormant peaks. At roughly 16,000 hectares, and established in 1925, it’s Africa’s oldest national park. The fertile ground supports a rich web of life: birds in flashes of colour, insects humming in the undergrowth, and primates moving through mist-heavy mornings.

This is trekking country. Days begin early, boots laced, guides leading you uphill through mud and vine until the forest shifts and you find them – mountain gorillas, feeding quietly, close enough to hear a branch snap. Golden monkeys dart through the canopy above, adding movement to the stillness.

Strict conservation rules shape the experience, and rightly so. It’s humbling, regulated, and unforgettable. You leave knowing you didn’t just “see gorillas”; you stepped briefly into their world, on their terms.

Highlights

Limited daily gorilla permits to protect habituated families

Guided treks led by expert trackers who monitor groups year-round

Volcanic terrain across the Virunga Mountains is rich in biodiversity

Community revenue-sharing that directly supports surrounding villages

Akagera National Park

Best For: Travellers wanting a classic savannah safari in Rwanda – Big 5 potential without the crowds of larger East Africa safari destinations.

The hills flatten into golden grassland, with acacias scattered across the skyline and lakes catching the light in long silver strokes. It sits along the Tanzanian border, where open plains meet papyrus swamps.

This is Rwanda’s only true savannah reserve. And today, it stands fully restored. Lion and rhino have been reintroduced, rebalancing the ecosystem and bringing back the Big 5. Game drives move easily between woodland and wetland, while boat trips on Lake Ihema shift the perspective: elephants drinking at the shore, hippos crowding the shallows, and African fish eagles cutting through the air.

It’s compact and manageable while still remaining wildly impressive.

East Africa is known for its patchwork of prized safari experiences.
While the coastline stretches long and varied, two destinations consistently stand out among the best holiday destinations in East Africa.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site with carved wooden doors and coral-stone buildings that twist past markets, mosques, and shaded courtyards – Africa, Arabia, India, and Europe all leaving fingerprints in the same few streets.
Not all silences are empty. Some help us remember who we are. Have you ever wished for more serenity in your life? How often do you find a rare moment free from the buzz of wires, static, and endless chatter? Even social platforms seem to acknowledge this need, with videos now playing silently. Could this be a sign of our shared longing to embrace quiet, to return to ourselves, and to honour our place as stewards of nature? Let’s explore…

The Balance of Life

As a busy professional with a young family, I must carve out time to unplug and recharge, so I can return to my natural state of balance. I do so through hiking and biking, preferably near a body of water, which I find incredibly invigorating. I also practise mindfulness through yoga, forest and sound baths, which help to restore my holistic balance.

Mindful Silence Brims With Meaning

In Africa, silence is a living, breathing presence, one that thrums beneath the bush, whispers across the desert, murmurs through rainforests and roars in the ocean’s rush.

This is the silent safari Africa offers: a journey where the land speaks, not in words, but in moments that linger long after you’ve left. In these natural spaces, you can listen to the ancient messages carried across canyons, plains, riverbeds, oceans and deserts. This is nature’s rhetoric, a broadcast message hardwired to speak to your soul.

In this blog, we’ll journey through nature’s biomes, living worlds, each harbouring a distinct sort of silence that transcends all language barriers and universally connects humanity.

Some people send postcards. Jill Leis sent full-blown dispatches – charming, candid, and completely captivated by everything from Kigali’s motorbike symphonies to lion feasts and lightning storms in the Mara. Her East African journey, expertly arranged by our Travel Expert, Justine Ryan, spanned three countries over the course of three remarkable weeks – each offering a distinctly different experience. And Jill documented it all in real time. The result? A first-hand account of what it really feels like to fall in love with Africa – stinging nettles, sunrise wake-ups, surprise bush birthdays, and all!

At Rhino Africa, we believe in providing honest, informed, and responsible travel advice. As Africa’s most awarded luxury safari company, we have a deep commitment not just to our guests but to the destinations we work in, the wildlife we strive to protect, and the communities that rely on tourism. The question of whether one should book a gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda or Uganda right now is not a simple one. The situation in the region is complex, evolving, and requires careful consideration, but let’s unpack it thoughtfully.

The decision to book a gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda or Uganda requires careful consideration, Image Credit: Singita

Is It Safe to Travel to See the Gorillas?

Despite the ongoing tensions in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), it is still safe to visit the gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda. The gorilla trekking regions of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda remain unaffected by the direct conflict.

However, it would be irresponsible to overlook the fact that the situation is volatile and could change at any time. Travel advisories from various governments currently warn against travel to these areas, not because of immediate threats within Rwanda and Uganda but due to the proximity of the conflict in DRC. While travel is not banned, these advisories have significant implications for financial protection, as we’ll explain below.

Volcanoes National Park and Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest remain safe and unaffected by the conflict

Should You Book Now? The Financial Considerations

At Rhino Africa, we do not believe in boycotting destinations. Tourism is the lifeblood of conservation and local economies, and the consequences of a travel boycott would be devastating to wildlife protection efforts and the communities that depend on visitors. However, we do believe in a cautious and transparent approach.

The Key Issue Guests Must Consider is Financial Risk

1. Travel Warnings & Insurance Limitations

Due to the current travel warnings, travel insurance will not cover you if you need to cancel your trip due to an escalation of the conflict. This means that if you book now and the situation worsens, you may not be able to recover your costs should you elect to cancel.

2. Non-Refundable Deposits & Gorilla Permits

At Rhino Africa, our average lead time from booking a gorilla trek to actual travel is up to six months. To confirm a booking, standard payment terms require a 30% deposit, plus full payment for flights and gorilla permits upfront. These payments are passed directly to accommodations, logistics providers, and conservation authorities, making them effectively non-refundable.

3. Final Payments & Shorter Risk Assessment Windows

The final balance is due 60 days before travel, meaning guests have a shorter window to evaluate risk before committing to the full payment. Unfortunately, unless our suppliers in the region change their payment and cancellation policies, guests must accept that their investment is at risk should the conflict escalate and they elect not to travel.

The Bigger Picture: The Risk of Mass Cancellations

If the conflict situation deteriorates further, mass cancellations could place significant financial strain on the small, high-end lodges and operators that define this region.

As we saw during COVID-19, even when payment terms are flexible, refunds are not guaranteed because suppliers themselves may lack the liquidity to return funds in the face of widespread cancellations.

More concerning is that two Rwandan operators have already gone insolvent as bookings have declined due to the conflict over the past quarter. If more suppliers face financial distress, guest refunds could become impossible, regardless of cancellation policies.

Rhino Africa’s Approach: Caution with Transparency

We pride ourselves on being more than just a travel company – we are a movement, a champion for conservation, and a company deeply invested in our guests’ experiences and well-being.

We love Rwanda. It is one of the most extraordinary travel destinations on Earth, and seeing the mountain gorillas in the wild is a life-changing experience. We want as many guests as possible to experience its magic. However, our responsibility is to ensure that our guests understand the risks before making a decision.

At this time, we do not feel comfortable recommending new bookings for gorilla trekking in Rwanda or Uganda unless suppliers adjust their terms to protect guests financially, given the traditionally long lead times. Until that happens, our approach remains cautious and transparent, not because we don’t believe in the destination but because we believe in putting our guests first.

Beyond Gorillas: Rwanda Is More Than the “Gorilla Express”

While gorilla trekking is the primary reason many guests visit Rwanda, it’s worth noting that the country offers far more. There are other incredible regions to explore that are well away from the conflict-affected areas, including:

Have you ever considered experiencing shinrin-yoku in Africa? When people think of Africa, it’s often the golden sweep of the savannah, the iconic silhouette of a baobab tree, or the vibrant buzz of our Mother City that springs to mind. Yet intertwined within our continent’s natural diversity lies something somewhat lesser-known – verdant, tree-filled landscapes that invite you into their quiet embrace. These forested sanctuaries are perfect for shinrin–yoku (also known as forest bathing), a practice rooted in slowing down, connecting deeply, and discovering the magic of being tucked beneath a blanket of leafy branches.

Shinrin-Yoku: A Return to the Basics

Forest bathing is all about immersion. Originating in Japan, shinrin-yoku encourages people to step into the woods and let nature do the work. The air, rich with the subtle scent of damp bark and the freshness of leaves, slows the breath. The soft crunch of twigs underfoot pulls attention to the present. Even the way sunlight streams through the branches draws the eye and calms the mind.

The purity of forest bathing holds a power that feels almost instinctive. Modern life, with its endless emails and buzzing notifications, often pushes people to the edge of exhaustion. Stepping into a forest resets the balance. Shinrin-yoku in Africa is a sensory reset – sights, sounds, and scents working together to soothe an overstimulated mind.

Forest bathing is about being so keenly aware of the beauty of the world around you

Africa: The Unexpected Sanctuary

For those seeking to experience forest bathing in its purest form, Africa offers the perfect setting. Its forests, often overshadowed by the continent’s more well-known landscapes, deliver something surprising: vast green spaces alive with life, offering peace to those who seek it. Here, the trees are guardians of the ancient, their branches stretching toward the sky like arms extended in welcome.

Destinations like Rwanda and the Republic of Congo unveil fairytale rainforests, where misty canopies and the distant calls of wildlife create a mystical atmosphere. Madagascar enchants with its unique biodiversity, while South Africa provides diverse wooded escapes – and this is merely the tip of the tallest tree!

What makes shinrin-yoku in Africa so special is its contrast. One doesn’t typically expect lush greenery in a land synonymous with open plains and wild game. But Africa surprises. Its tree-laden landscapes are as diverse as its cultures, offering spaces where the quiet hum of nature can surround travellers.

Shinrin-Yoku in Africa is a Feast for the Senses

Every sense comes alive when forest bathing in Africa. The earthy smell of leaves mingling with distant rain draws deep, deliberate breaths. Sounds – a distant birdcall, the faint rustle of unseen movement – become amplified, pulling focus away from endless to-do lists and grounding it in the moment.

The textures are equally arresting: the ridges of an old trunk, the soft cushion of moss underfoot, or the cool air against the skin. Even taste plays its part, whether it’s the sharpness of rain-soaked air or the lingering saltiness in coastal forests. Each sensation works together, an unspoken invitation to let go and simply exist within the trees.

Why Shinrin-Yoku in Africa Works

The therapeutic effects of forest bathing are well-documented. Time spent under the canopy reduces stress, sharpens focus, and even boosts immunity. But there’s something about Africa’s untamed landscapes that adds another layer. It’s the knowledge that these forests are alive with stories of life older than time itself, pulsing with vitality.

It’s an opportunity to feel small in the best possible way, reminded of the connection between humanity and the natural world. Few experiences are as humbling or as rejuvenating as standing among ancient trees, their quiet strength almost tangible.

As a nation, Rwanda takes collective responsibility for ensuring every visitor leaves with an incredible experience. Apart from its famous mountain gorillas, Rwanda truly shines in combining astonishing luxury with warm hospitality.

Undoubtedly, the renewed focus on tourism has brought a sense of meaning to the Rwandan people. And with their involvement, it’s well on its way to being a truly symbiotic relationship.

Five Ways Eco-Tourism in Rwanda is Succeeding

Rwanda has implemented multiple eco-tourism initiatives, but here are just a few ways they’re making a difference.

1. Creating New National Parks

There are so many success stories in Rwanda when it comes to national parks, particularly Akagera, Nyungwe and Volcanoes National Parks. However, they keep fighting to protect Mother Nature by creating another legally protected area and the country’s fourth national park, Gishwati-Mukura National Park.

Through these national parks, they’ve also managed to reintroduce species to the area, like lions to the Akagera National Park after being extinct for two decades. They also reintroduced rhinos and kept strengthening the population in the country.

2. Bringing Mountain Gorillas Back From The Brink of Extinction

Through eco-sensitive gorilla trekking and various other tourism initiatives, Rwanda has managed to protect and increase the endangered mountain gorilla population, making them the only ape species to move from being critically endangered to endangered.

2. Long, Waterproof Pants

Much like your arms, your legs will thank you for the extra protection, especially if it’s waterproof. The rainforests of Rwanda and the Republic of Congo have high-humidity climates, and wearing waterproof fabrics will help you stay dry and comfortable during the trek.

3. Good, Sturdy Hiking Boots

As the song says, “These boots are made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do”. A pair of good quality, waterproof hiking boots will go a long way towards keeping your feet happy as you trek. Remember to splurge on a pair with good ankle support. Also, get some gaiters – sleeves to protect your boots from dust, debris, moisture and insects going into interesting places.

4. Rain Jackets

You’ll be in a rainforest, so it’s important to be prepared for precipitation. A rain jacket will go a long way towards keeping your layers dry so that you’re never soaked and shivering. If the jacket is lightweight, it will be even better as you can stash it in your backpack until needed without adding much weight to your back.

5. Sun Protection

The sun can be very unforgiving in Africa, even when you think it’s hiding behind the clouds. Therefore, you should protect yourself as soon as you step outside.

Don’t forget to pack a wide-brimmed hat to keep you cool and shield your face, neck and ears from the sun. Sunglasses are not just a fashion accessory but prevent you from squinting and protect your eyes from the sun’s glare. And finally, to make sure you don’t spoil your time in Africa with painful sunburn, slather on some sunscreen and reapply frequently.

6. Backpack

You’ll spend quite a bit of time out in the rainforest as you search for the gorillas, so invest in a comfortable backpack that you can carry with ease and keep your belongings like reusable water bottles, snacks, sunscreen and any other items you wish to bring along with you. Some luxury lodges will provide you with a backpack.

7. Camera

To ensure you capture the big moment you meet the gorillas, bring along your camera. It will let you relive the memories long after the day has ended, and you will be the centre of attention at your next dinner party when you show your snaps to friends and family. However, to avoid disturbing the gorillas and other wildlife, flash photography is not allowed during gorilla trekking.

8. Thick Gardening Gloves

Yes, you did read that correctly: gardening gloves! While our gorilla cousins have evolved appendages that allow them to grip surrounding slopes and branches, humans have not. So, to best protect your hands when you use them to go up and down steep forested slopes, a nice pair of thick gardening gloves will go a long way!

9. Insect Repellent

While your eau de parfum probably smells wonderful, we suggest swapping it out for some eau de bug spray. Spraying insect repellent before and during your gorilla trekking excursion will help keep those creepy crawlies and their friends who fly far away from you for a comfortable trek.

Decoding Gorilla Trekking with Allison

I’ve done a fair bit of coverage on gorilla trekking – “literarily,” not “literally” – and, when doing research, I frequently come across variations of the sentiment, “Nothing compares to the experience of meeting a gorilla in the wild.” Initially, I accepted this view, imagining the awe such an encounter must inspire and then creating my own interpretations in my writing.

That is why when I had the opportunity to interview my colleague, Allison, about her recent trip to Volcanoes National Park and her gorilla trekking escapade, I was eager to pick her brain to REALLY find out what feelings flooded within her when she encountered these gentle giants of East Africa.

Allison’s Rwandan Revelations

When sitting down with Allison, one of Rhino Africa’s seasoned Travel Experts, my objective was to get to the crux of my curiosity about this “gorilla soul-stirring phenomenon”.
